This is a 12-18 month maternity leave contract. 

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Tax, you will be responsible for various aspects of US domestic tax as well as assist with International tax matters.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review of tax returns and remittances, review / preparation of working papers (ensuring that source documentation maintains a clear audit trail), and monitoring specified deadlines to ensure timely filing, including the following returns:
    • US federal and state income and franchise tax annual returns and remittances,
    • Quarterly US federal and state estimated income taxes and remittances,
    • Monthly US state sales tax returns and remittances.
    • Various foreign income tax returns and remittances, where returns prepared by external advisors.
    • Various foreign indirect tax returns and remittances, including liaising with external advisors as appropriate.
  • Preparation of workpapers and documentation to support US R&D claim.
  • Assist with preparation of financial statement tax provisions including income tax note disclosure using US GAAP
  • Assist in preparing responses to inquiries raised by tax authorities during audit examinations at Federal and state level, for income tax and/or sales tax.
  • Assist with review of correspondence from tax authorities, including tying correspondence to filed returns, reconciling discrepancies, updating return carryforwards files, preparing adjustments to g/l accounts, and preparing related file documentation.
  • Collaborating with our business partners to support cross-functional business projects with tax considerations
  • Researching issues and preparing analysis/memos regarding US federal and state tax matters
  • Preparation of Management Fees Calculation for the US Entities
  • Determine and ensure compliance with foreign transfer pricing documentation requirements and assistance in filing required information returns.
  • Research and analysis involving tax compliance requirements in foreign jurisdictions including the application of various income tax treaties.
  • Assistance with research and analysis for certain tax balances such as surplus and FAPI for Canadian tax purposes.
  • Performing other duties as required for additional independent projects

Education and work experience

  • Degree or diploma in commerce, business administration or a related field
  • A professional accounting designation (US CPA / Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant)
  • At least 5 years of experience in US corporate taxation
  • Experience in the area of Canadian income taxation is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Wolters Kluwer tax software (such as ProSystems FX), Thomson Reuters One Source (Determination, Indirect Compliance and Certificate Manager) and Microsoft Dynamics for F&O is considered an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization and with external advisors
  • Strong commitment to ensuring the deadlines are maintained and achieved
  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment to deliver on commitments
