About this position

The Payroll Analyst reports directly to the Payroll Manager and handles full-cycle payroll and undertakes a variety of other ancillary payroll related duties; ensuring they align with SMART’s business needs and supports our growing global workforce.

Responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Processes full-cycle payroll for Canada using Ceridian/Dayforce.
  • Payroll processing adjustments, retroactive pay, benefits checking, new hires, quarterly bonus, vacation pay, severance, terminations, ROE's.
  • Generate timely payroll funding requests for payment processing via the Treasury department (including government and 3rd Party remittances, Workers Compensation, RRSP, and garnishments).
  • Process year-end activities, including all year-end adjustments, taxable benefit reporting, File T4’s, and complete all year-end reporting, payroll audits, and reconciliation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal payroll processes, company policies, and legislative requirements.
  • Proper record-keeping of all documentation and maintaining written payroll procedure and process documentation.
  • Respond to escalated payroll queries and maintain payroll inbox and payroll folder on a shared drive.
  • Support government inquiries from CRA, IRS, and States – Funneled through Ceridian Tax Services.
  • Liaison with HR, Benefits, Tax, IT, Legal, and Finance Department.
  • Support other related projects, duties, meetings, and reporting.

Education, work experience and skills

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Accounting, or similar field.
  • PCP Certification preferred.
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience full cycle payroll processing.
  • Experience working with the Canada payroll in multiple states.
  • Proficiency in US and International payroll experience would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Ceridian/Dayforce is an asset.
  • Comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in working with confidential and private information.
  • Demonstrated collaboration techniques working with stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and have strong time management skills.
  • Ability to manage critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment with conflicting priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including MS Excel.

Supervision

  • This position does not have any direct reports.

Working conditions
